Do you have these characteristics?

Sultan Qaboos

Sultan Qaboos was the King of Oman from 1970 to 2020 January 11; the longest-reigning Arab leader. Omanis look up to him so much that they refer to him as "Baba Qaboos" and Baba means "father". From what I have shared in the 'Local Culture' page, Omanis is very proud of its country because Sultan Qaboos had always urged his people to take pride, embrace their country's heritage, celebrate their culture and identity.

The characteristics of Sultan Qaboos that we can learn from are his good manners, ethics, generosity and how he cares about a good impression. Omanis respect and admires Sultan Qaboos thus, resulting in a very civilised and welcoming community.

1. Having good manners:

Sultan Qaboos was the optimum model of good manners. Every action that he undertook in life represented with the highest morals and manners. This is where Omanis gain their good ethics resulting in them being a community that many foreigners look up to.

Not only this will benefit you now, but it will also help you in the future too as knowing and using proper etiquette regularly can help with confidence and possess high EQ.

2. Being generous:

Generosity is another trademark of the personality of Sultan Qaboos. He was the most generous Sultan for Oman. With the wealth that he had and the position he holds, Sultan Qaboos ensures that he gives Omanis the necessities a country should have such as roads, hospitals, schools, communications systems, and industrial and port facilities. He priorities Omanis over himself and always fulfilled the needs of his country; he even gives the poor a home and even cars. Thus this is why our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong calls him an architect of Oman’s development.

His generosity is something that we should aspire to and spread the examples of his generosity to other people as well so that the world could become a better place.

3. General appearance:

Sultan Qaboos ensure that the country's general appearance is beautiful, pure, simple, gentle and yet many tourists come and find themselves amused by its beauty every time. After all, Oman offers 1,500 miles of beaches, lush oases, dramatic scenery, forts and fjords, and the endless sand dunes of the Empty Quarter, plus several fine hotels and that priceless extra: safety.

From an interview with Dr Kalpana*, she said that she didn't see any cleaners during the two visits she went Oman and it actually surprised her. She said that it is amazing that Omanis is very proud of their country that they all have the mindset of keeping the country clean. And in order to do that, it has to be taught at a very young age.

Throughout the late Sultan Qaboos's years as a monarch of Oman, one of his main focus was to emphasis women empowerment. He credited if by increasing the number of women training and entering the labour market for higher degrees.

He also supervised women's involvement in politics and ensured that they could work at the highest government levels. The constitution of the nation established under his influence, "guarantees equal protection under the law for both men and women."
